LEGO Sanctum Sanctorum Showdown Building Kit Review
This is a new Marvel Super Heroes set to tie in with the new 2018 Marvel Movie Avengers Infinity War.
The set includes just over 1,000 pieces to build a New York City Building that includes Dr Stra.nge’s Sanctum Sanctorum, Spiderman or Peter Parker’s apartment and Pepe’s Pizza Restaurant. It also comes with 4 Minifigures which we will discuss later.
The building is hinged which makes it great for playing and display. You have either have the building flat, in an L shape or closed so that The Sanctum Sanctorum is back to back with Peter Parker’s Apartment and the Pizzeria.
The outside of the building includes a side street with some web related spiderman details including a web that can be grabbed by a figure that knocks a window out. There is a fire escape that can be raised and lowered.
On the roof is a water tower and button function, you can attach a winch to a mini-figure and lower it to the sidewalk.
The Sanctum Sanctorum
This is a 3 level building where Doctor Strange hangs out and it is full of nice little details including a chest that opens to reveal weapons. a bookcase that holds a hidden Infinity Stone and an exploding wall feature. There are spares of the Infinity Stone just in case you lose them.
Peter Parker’s Apartment
This is where Peter Parker spends his time when not out fighting crime with the Avengers as Spiderman. Peter’s apartment includes his bedroom area and a nicely detailed office. The bedroom has a trap door and also another exploding window function.
Pepe’s Pizzeria
Under Peter Parker’s apartment is this fast food restaurant, it includes a pizza oven and a buildable Shawarma station and lots of other detailed accessories. Once again this one has an exploding window as well.
Mini-figures
The set comes with 5 figures.
Dr. Strange – is a well-detailed figure and does a good job of resembling the character from the movies and comic book. He is wearing his cloak of levitation and has the trademark white streaks in his hair
Iron Spider – Has a sharply Printed costume and is a new look for the Avengers Infinity War Movie with this gift from Tony Stark that makes him look a lot more spider like! He also comes with a power blast weapon.
Iron Man – the Iron Man MK48 costume looks a bit different from previous version and we like it a lot. His Visor can be removed or lifted to reveal the face of Tony Stark.
Ebony Maw – the first of the two villains included in this set. Ebony Maw is an alien and one of the Black Order. We don’t want to give away too many spoilers so watch the film to find out more. LEGO have done a reasonable job of recreating him as a minifigure for this set. Like Iron Spiderman he also has a Power Blast weapon
Cull Obsidian – Is a menacing looking minifigure carrying dual hammers. He is another of the Black Order. In the comics he has fought with the Guardians of the Galaxy and Black Panther.
Conclusion
This would make a nice set to display or play with. It has a good amount of functionality and accessories for hours of play and the mini figures have plenty of detail. Another great set from LEGO.
